We'll be crowdsourcing content that comes out of this unconference. Our Twitter hashtag is #tcic2012.
Photos and videos uploaded to Flickr and YouTube can use this tag to make it easier for us to find your contributions as we curate the content we produce here. For Flickr and YouTube, you can also use tags like "THATCamp Iowa City," "THATCamp," and "Iowa City," along with whatever tags you wish to label your work with. I am a Ph.D. candidate in Communication Studies at the University of Iowa. The humanities need more historical understandings of science and technology, especially as new sciences become inextricably linked with technologies. My research interests include media technologies of communication, their history, and the social policies that encourage or discourage their development. We socialize with others through the technologies we invent, including spoken language, writing, sound recording, broadcasting, and more recently, mobile communication devices. My recent interests question new mobile communication devices: What is their history? What technologies shaped their development? And how have they effected social relationships among military, hospitals, and consumers?
